Day 3 - Vik Dyrholaey #2 and The Big Pack

The campsite at Vik filled up a lot overnight and was pretty packed.  It's a good spot to base yourself for various touristy trips in that area.

We made a quick stop at the local Kronan supermarket and bought new gas canisters, the ones we got yesterday had the wrong thread for our cookers.  D'oh. Just as well we checked or it would have been cold dinners and iced coffee each day!  You can re-hydrate with cold water but it takes much longer, and cold cooked breakfast of eggs sausage and potato just doesn't have the same appeal.

We headed to Reynisfjara beach, but it was cold and grey and raining, so didn't stay long.

The sneaker wave warning was only yellow today, so not much entertainment

Headed back to Dyrholaey for another go at the puffins, to a slightly different spot this time, with no more success snapping them in flight. Sigh.  A bird photographer I am not.

We had a quick lunch in the van before heading back to Hella where we are staying for the night, placed to catch our bus to Landmannalaugar tomorrow morning at 8:45.

Skogafoss from the van window as we drove past.  Hopefully this is where we will end up in about 6 days time.

We sussed out the long term parking spot where we will leave the van, the bus pick up point, and finally to the supermarket to get something for tea.

Then came The Big Pack, the final decision of what to take and what to leave.

Stuff EVERYWHERE while we sorted, culled and re-packed.  Luckily it wasn't raining, so we could spread out on the grass.

Belinda's Pack came in at 19kg.  My front packs are 6kg and the main pack was about 11, but that's without my sleeping bag and water bottles.  Yikes.  One consolation is the faster we eat the lighter the pack gets ๐Ÿ˜‹

We cooked dinner in the kitchen tonight, B has forgotten her Mac charging cable and it is now completely flat. She needs to unload memory cards to have space for more photos, so was using my laptop to transfer from her cards to her portable hard drives.  She is a magnet for Technology related mis-haps and brain farts.

Now we are charging EVERYTHING so that it will last as long as possible, and charging power banks to top up when we need to.

This camp ground seems quite busy with a couple of tour groups arriving after us. It has dinky cabins, and an ablution block with two toilets and one shower for the women ๐Ÿ™„ I might scoot in as soon as I wake up tomorrow, try my luck.
