Day 7 Laugavegur trail day 4
I was up at about 5.30 this morning, allowing plenty of time to organise myself in time for departure. Freeze dried cooked breakfast and Supreme coffee drip bags to start the day.
The Brits were up early, queuing for the shower and complaining about queue etiquette.
We left on time pretty much, everything super wet as it had rained quite a bit during the night. I had been toasty and dry inside my tent, but I'm sure I have added a kilo of rain water and half a kilo of fine volcanic sand to my carrying weight. The grit just gets everywhere.
I treated my feet to dry sox, and removed the orthotic insole to leave more space in my boots for my swollen feet, and it was much more comfortable.
The day started with a few steep descents and accents. I couldn't decide which was worse, slugging uphill with my heels rubbing, or downhill with my manky toe jamming against my boot. Woe is me!
It was really pretty and only raining a bit.
The landscape changed as we got closer to Porsmork, with moss eventually left behind to be replaced by small birches, getting taller the closer we got to the end of the trail.
Then the biggest river crossing of the trip, the Pronga river. We were a bit worried about this one as it can sometimes be waist deep, and there had been a reasonable amount of rain. Yikes!
But not today, it barely came to my knees, and while quite wide compared to the others, it wasn't flowing fast. We aced it.
A final really steep uphill haul from the river bed to the top of the next ridge, and another steep downhill to the next river bed. Belinda's knee was now very twangy, so we took it slow and steady, eventually arring at Porsmork around 2pm.
Trail competed!!!
I am never, ever, ever, EVER going to take a camera hiking. It's just not worth the weight. Even if I have managed an award winning photo from the trip (I haven't) the crappy weather makes for crappy light and crappy photo opportunities. And it's a hassle trying to keep it all dry as you haul it in and out to use.
Happily there was a bus leaving for Hella at 2.30 which had room for us. Unhappily, B picked the seat at the absolute back of the bus, and as we bounced through multiple river crossings and down the river bed to exit to the ring road, we literally left the seat and went airborne.

We arrived back in Hella to pick up the van, decided to head to Vik to stay the night. We booked in to the campsite, had a shower (yay!!!!) and changed into CLEAN clothes and dry socks.
I wanted burger and chips for dinner. None of this freeze dried lightweight crap, real food. We found a place called the Strondin Pub, and had a big ass cheeseburger and fries.
