Day 18 - fjords
We decided to head for Kirkjufell via the scenic route, as it was only 20 minutes longer, and weaved it's way around the coastline of several beautiful Fjords.
We stopped a few times for photos, there was no wind and so there were reflections on the calm sea.
We stopped for seals, there is a surprising lack of them in Iceland and this was the first group we have seen in either trip.

It was a beautiful day to start with, fine, sunny with zero wind.

As we got closer to Kirkjufell, the rain set in.
We made camp, and I decided to pay the extra 900 ISK ($12 NZD) for a shower.
Most of the camp grounds are affiliated with the local swimming pool. It is very much the centre of the Icelandic community, and even the smallest places we've been have had a pool, and all kids learn to swim (as per our guide Sheridan).
The shower was part of the pool facility, locker room style, and I had to keep pressing the button for hot water, but I had the place to myself and it was nice to feel clean and wash my hair. I wasn't brave enough to tackle the shower at the cottage on Hornstandir.
There are no kitchen facilities at this camp, so we boiled water and used another of our dehydrated dinners to use them up. But there are outdoor sinks that have super hot water, so we can wash up afterwards.
Hoping for the rain to clear overnight so we have good photo conditions tomorrow 🤞
